Statement of DILG Sec. Eduardo M. Año on Measures Undertaken in view of Taal Volcano’s Phreatic Eruption

I have placed the Philippine National Police on full disaster response status and they are currently implementing mandatory evacuation in areas directly affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano in close coordination with Local Government Units. We have mobilized all PNP Search and Rescue assets in PRO 4A for the conduct of timely and rapid disaster response.

All PNP Regional Directors in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and the National Capital Region have also been directed to immediately activate their respective Disaster Incident Management Task Group, Regional Reactionary Standby Force, and Search and Rescue assets for immediate deployment, as needed by conditions in their respective areas.

The Bureau of Fire Protection is also on full disaster response status and is currently assisting the PNP and Local Government Units implement the mandatory evacuation ordered by the NDRRMC due to the hazards of pyroclastic density as per PHIVOLCS advisory.

All provincial governors and mayors in Region IVA, III and NCR are hereby reminded to be physically present in their respective LGUs and immediately convene their respective Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to ensure immediate and timely disaster response. The Local Chief Executives must also immediately activate their Incident Management Teams, Operations Center and various disaster response teams. The DILG will closely monitor the actions taken by the LGUs in accordance with Operation Listo protocols.

We call on the public to donate clean drinking water, food, emergency medicines and other basic essentials (e.g., tents, mats, blankets, water containers, cooking pots, etc.) for the use of those currently in evacuation centers. The donations may be coursed through the DSWD or directly to the LGUs.

Local Government Units, in coordination with other agencies, should likewise conduct Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analyses, as well as Infrastructure Audit of all buildings, houses, roads, bridges and other critical facilities in their respective areas as soon as practicable.
