DILG to public: Call Hotline 1555 or 02894-COVID for medical advice on COVID-19
To better serve the public at this time of public health emergency, the DILG and DOH has launched COVID hotlines 1555 and 02894-COVID (26843) for the public to call to seek medical advice and assistance about COVID-19.
According to DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año, anyone can access the hotline numbers for information about the COVID-19 pandemic, clarifications if they feel they have acquired the disease, or to ask for medical assistance because of the presence of symptoms and known exposure to confirmed COVID-19 cases or people with travel history abroad.
“The government wants to allay the fears of the public and counter the infodemic that has been circulating about COVID-19. Through this hotline numbers, we hope that we will be able to give them the right information and assure them of the government’s assistance,” said Año.
The COVID emergency hotline is made possible through the partnership of the Department of Health (DOH), DILG’s 911 National Emergency Hotline, Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) and its wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc.
“We are glad to be part of this convergence between the government and the public sector in preventing the spread of COVID. At this time when the country tries to overcome this growing health crisis, we really need to pool our resources and work together to combat COVID,” the DILG Secretary said.
Initially, hotline 1555 is accessible only to PLDT, Smart, Sun and TNT subscribers. On the other hand, the hotline number 02894-COVID or 02-894-26843 is open to all callers nationwide.
“Ang COVID Hotline na ito ay makatutulong sa pagbibigay ng tamang impormasyon at para alalayan ang mga taong nangangamba na may sakit na sila. Umaasa tayo na sa pamamagitan ng hotline na ito, mas mapapadali ang pagbibigay ng tulong medikal para sa kanila,” he said.
Maintain discipline amidst COVID-19 pandemic
The DILG Chief also called on the public to maintain discipline amidst this global health emergency and dial only the DOH COVID hotline numbers for legitimate medical, health, and emergency purposes only.
“Let us keep the lines open for those who direly need the assistance of the government on COVID. Panatilihin po natin ang disiplina sa pagtawag sa COVID hotline at siguruhing tunay at importante ang pakay natin,” Año said.
He said that the existing manpower and facilities of the 911 National Emergency Hotline will be utilized to answer the COVID-19 hotline calls.
Año assured the public that the COVID hotline call center agents are well-trained to handle calls in distress and route these calls to the proper authorities.
He said that pertinent information collected from emergency calls to the COVID hotlines will be immediately relayed to the DOH and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for Emerging Infectious Diseases for proper action.
